Honoring Barbara E. Hoot
Barbara arrived in this world on October 2, 1932. The oldest of two children born to Roy and Elizabeth Sikorski. She left us on January 22, 2026, at 93 years of age after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer’s & Dementia.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hoot, her sister Patricia, brother in-law Jack and her best friend Joan Norman.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Darlene, son-in-law Frank and her grandson Connor who cared for her in their home until she took her last breath. She is also survived by her nieces Lynne Ickes and Leanne (Albert) Malcomb, their children Katy (Scott), Aaron
(Anne), Abby (Chris) & Lilly and their children Flora, Evy, Jackie and Cassie, all of whom she dearly loved.
She is also survived by her stepchildren Rhonda, Donald, and Kelly and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ashley, Brianna, Kayla and Tyler and great grandchild Skyla. She loved them as though they were her own without exception.
Barbara loved her family, she enjoyed traveling and lived her life to the fullest. She shared her grandson Connor’s passion for reading and the Garden City Library was one of their favorite places to hang out. They attended coloring nights, craft and beading
classes, and fueled their need for written material. Every year she would proudly give us the count of how many books she had checked out over each summer. Her top score was over 90. She also relaxed by creating the most beautiful, crocheted blankets and throws, giving them to those she loved.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00am at Downriver United Methodist Church, 14400 Beech Daly Rd. Taylor, MI. Family and friends will gather beginning at 10:00am.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place, as well as interment with her husband Donald at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested Memorial donations be made to:
